What Makes a Bar the Best Bar?
There are many factors that need to be included in deciding which type of bars you like to hang out in. You have the traditional neighborhood bar, the hot spot bar that is the coolest place, and the theme type bars.
There are many names they can be called by, taverns, beer gardens, saloons, nightclubs, clubs, pubs and the bars.
Here is a site for bars and fun, I love it’s new concept for people who like going to bars. http://www.mycocktailwaitress.com
But, which type of bar do I want to have a drink at tonight, let’s review my bar options?
Let’s start with the hot spot first. The latest and greatest bar place everyone goes to see the cool people, the hot guys and gals making the scene. It is exciting, sexy, and stimulates your senses in every way possible. Your sense of smell, sight, taste and human lust are on full alert. Everyone is packed in, rubbing up against each other and shaking their bodies to the beat. You have to love it when you catch someone’s eye and they smile back. Add a lot of alcohol with some raging hormones and that is a high like no other. Dancing and drinking and checking out the players are all part of why these bars have been around for a very long time. As with youth they will always be here for the younger crowds who are looking to score and dance off the nights buzz.
Now let’s talk about the theme type bars, these are the bars that cater to people who want to live their lives through a certain image or style they think fits them.
We have the following, country bars; they want to dress like people they’ve seen in a movie or like the person who sings a song they like. Outfits are required like wearing certain style clothing, like hats, boots, jeans, and special style shirts. They want you to think they’re country because they drink beer from a long neck bottle, or drink whiskey shots and tequila. People start talking different, greeting each other with expression like, Yaa ho or howdy partner. They like country music and do dance routines that are designed around lots of other participating in line dances or square dancing. They sure do have a good time and it appeals to almost any age group. These type bars seemed to really get popular with a movie called Urban Cowboy and the bull riding machines was born. They are located in almost any major city and very popular in the west and southwest parts of the country. I would say this form of bar business has been around for only a few decades, but will remain as long as there are horses and people who like wearing cowboy hats.
Now the newest theme bars have only really taken off since the invention of large flat screen televisions. I’m talking about the Sports bar; you can throw Hooters in with this category also. It is where you get patrons to come to a bar that has wall to wall flat screens. You cannot really hear the games to well, because there are 10 different games going at once. I think these guys must have made a few trips to Vegas and went into the old Stardust Hotel. This was the very first place to have sports on screens everywhere. The Stardust was the very first sport betting place in the world that was legal. I use to be amazed at all the screens and different sports going all at once. It was a thrill to think I was there betting on sports. That was unheard of then, everywhere in the country you had to get a bookie to bet sports. Sport bars have food, usually fried and lots of draft beer. The waitresses are dressed usually with a referee outfit on, why I do not know, but they do. Every night, anytime of the year, there is a game on of some kind. Fights on HBO are a big draw for some of these outlet bars. The mother of all corporate sports bars are the ESPN franchises. These types of bars have not been around very long, but has a huge following based on everyone’s need to see their team on TV and drink. Plus it gives them a place to wear a sports jersey of their favorite team. This is a new trend in the bar business and will never go away unless they outlaw sports and beer or lower the price of tickets to go see it at a real stadium.
I really have a fondness in my heart for the neighborhood bar, the tavern, just down the street from where you grow up. The place your dad and his dad stopped for a cold one on the way home from work. Probably where you had your first drink, it may have been your first legal beer when you got your 21st birthday. It is where all the people you knew went. It was the hub of the whole social network, school buddies, relatives, church members, teachers, farmers, factory workers and even the guy on welfare. Everyone had something to talk about, you would hear stories you have heard many times before but loved to hear again. Your family and friends always had a story about you and it usually was embarrassing but funny as hell. Most were usually a family owned bar that had been in the family for years. Many were Irish, German and other ethnic groups who immigrated here generations ago. The food was not the best but the popcorn and nuts would make the beer go down. The décor was old, it had not been painted in my lifetime, smelled like old smoke and beer and the bathrooms were not to sanitary. But I have to say it was real, it was people drinking and talking about things that mattered to your neighborhood. Our local high school sports teams and families were important, you were proud to be there with them. I never needed any theme or outfit to fit in, it was real and comfortable and part of my home. I may not ever get back to that bar, it may soon be gone like so many other small town bars, and I will miss it, but I have the memories.
So, I choose to take that neighborhood bar anytime, because it is not about hot girls, sports jerseys, it’s about a beer with friends and feeling like you belong, just the way you are.
